I’ve wanted to share this poem for a while now! It’s one of my favorite poems I’ve written so far!

I wrote this poem about a year ago when I was two years out of the relationship that inspired it.

It’s full of imagery of fire, burning, ash, and broken foundations, all references to the destruction its protagonist the “villain” brought into my life.

But read to the end! The person I finally decided to blame might surprise you!

The Poem

that villain she loss poem

A Poem about Casting Blame and Accepting Fate

In the beginning, I thought this poem’s protagonist was “that villain,” and its subject was the blame I believed she deserved for the damage she did in my life and my anger towards her.

During the writing process, I found that this relationship’s catastrophic ending really wasn’t anyone’s fault but fate’s. In the last lines, I found the blame I had cast was misplaced.

The poem’s protagonist was never the villain but fate. And its subject was never blame and anger but my own growth and acceptance. This poem released me from my need to cast blame and showed me how far I’d traveled down the road toward accepting fate.

Some of my favorite writing essentials:

Every writer needs coffee:

I’ve been using Bizzy Cold Brew coffee for a while now, and IT IS AMAZING!

It’s easy to make in a French press coffee maker! You just add water and forget it! Try it out!

And while you’re at it, get some Pink House Alchemy syrup! It’s a small business based in Arkansas, and it’s the BEST!

Love this poem! Misplaced blame is the root of a lot of evil. I’m off to do some self evaluation now…
