Halloween Baby Shower
Check out this post to find out how to plan the most incredible Halloween Baby Shower ever! I’ll walk you through all the steps, from food to drinks to decor!
When one of my best friends, Maggie, told me she wanted to have a Halloween-themed Baby Shower, I was so excited. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this shower was so fun to plan!
She wanted to go with a classic Halloween theme, so we used orange, black, and green for the colors. And we used traditional Halloween decor like cats, pumpkins, and ghosts!
Halloween Baby Shower Menu
I was in charge of food and decor for the shower. And I had help, but the shower fell at the end of a busy weekend for everyone, so I knew the recipes had to be quick and easy!
I chose some Halloween classics for the menu to go with our Classic Halloween theme. And I also went with a few Harry Potter-inspired dishes since the parents love Harry Potter, like butterbeer punch and cute little cauldron cakes!
For sweets, I made Rice Krispie treats with Halloween sprinkles, mini cauldron cake chocolate cupcakes, and the cutest mummy Nutter Butter cookies.
Of course, I had to serve some Halloween candy classics: candy corn and pumpkins and packaged Halloween candy. I also found some adorable ghost and pumpkin marshmallows and jelly pumpkin candies. And I added some dark chocolate-covered pretzel thins to the table because you always need a little chocolate!
On the savory side, we served a Halloween charcuterie board!
Cutest-Ever Mummy Cookie Recipe
I think that these Nutter Butter Mummy Cookies are the cutest cookies I’ve ever made! And they’re so fast and easy too!
My friend helped me make them before the shower, and we had so much fun. That day she taught me that you can put your almond bark in a mini crockpot to keep it perfectly melted while you dip, which made the process even easier!
To serve, we arranged them on a vintage silver platter that I picked up at the flea market.
Find the recipe below!
Nutter Butter Mummy Cookies
Equipment
- 1 microwave safe bowl
- 1 fork
- 1 sheet of wax paper
- 1 mini crockpot optional
Ingredients
- 1 package vanilla almond bark
- 1 package Nutter Butter cookies
- 1 package candy eyeballs
Instructions
- Melt your almond bark in the microwave according to package instructions. Tip: Melt your almond bark, and then keep it warm in a mini crockpot for more time to dip!
- Dip each cookie in the almond bark and place on wax paper.
- Add two candy eyeballs to each cookie. Tip: The almond bark will start to harden quickly. Place your eyeballs right after dipping!
- Allow cookies to harden on wax paper.
- Use a fork to sling lines of chocolate across your cookie to make your mummy's wraps! Tip: Make lines above and below your eyeballs to get that mummy look!
Cauldron Cakes
As I said, the mom-to-be loves Harry Potter, so I had to throw in some Harry Potter touches! One of these was cute Cauldron Cakes!
First, I ordered these little cauldrons and made mini chocolate cupcakes to put inside them. They were a hit–especially with the kids!
Then I prepared one boxed chocolate cake mix to save time. I baked it as directed in a mini cupcake tin. To save time, I bought green icing already in a decorating tube.
I made the cupcakes the day before and quickly iced them when I got to the shower for easier transport. Last, I decorated them with cute Halloween sprinkles, candy bones, and jelly pumpkins!
These cupcakes were fast and easy but looked adorable on a Halloween cake stand!
How to Make Bakery-Style Rice Krispie Treats
I made a Halloween dessert tray with some Rice Krispie Treats, Halloween candy, and the leftover cupcakes.
Rice Krispie Treats aren’t the fanciest treats, but I love them. Luckily, with just a few tips, you can make them look thick, perfect, and beautiful as if they came straight from the bakery!
How to make Bakery-Style Rice Krispie Treats:
- First follow the directions on the cereal box to make your treats! Tip: Only microwave the marshmallows until they are just melted. Getting them too hot and runny can make your treats mushy!
- Then grease your pan well so that your treats come out easily.
- Use a square pan with square corners so that all the treats come out looking perfectly the same.
- Use an 8-inch pan for thicker treats.
- If you want to add a topping, add it while the treats are still warm and sticky.
- Let your treats cool completely before cutting.
- Last, use a sharp knife to cut the treats to get clean lines. Don’t forget to measure your cuts to keep them even! (I was in a hurry and skipped this step at the shower, and I got some irregular treats. They still tasted good, though!)
Butterbeer Punch
For another Harry Potter touch, I served butterbeer punch to drink! The mommy-to-be and I sometimes made butterbeer growing up, making it extra special! And it looked fabulous in this cauldron!
First, chill two to three bottles of cream soda. Then fill your cauldron with as much of the cream soda as you need. Next, add a teaspoonful of butter extract per each bottle of soda used.
For the foamy topping, mix 1/2 jar of butterscotch ice cream topping with one tub of Cool Whip. Last, scoop the mixture on top of the cream soda. Tip: Don’t stir, or your punch will expand! When serving, gently scoop each serving of punch out off the cauldron. And don’t use a straw in it, or it will pop right out of your cup!
I needed to make this batch dairy-free, but in the past, I’ve also added a pint (or more!) of very soft vanilla ice cream to the foamy topping to make it extra tasty. And for an alcoholic twist, you can spike the punch with butterscotch schnapps! (We didn’t do that for the baby shower, of course!)
The Halloween Charcuterie Board
I love a charcuterie board. Of course, I had to make a Halloween version!
The charcuterie board components were: salami roses, mixed veggies, black grapes, seasoned mozzarella dyed bright green, crackers, mini pickles, and Halloween-shaped cheese slices. I filled the gaps with candies and garnished the tray with a fall gourd!
Tip: If you don’t have time to wash and chop vegetables, buy a vegetable tray at the store!
Halloween Cheese Slices
My favorite part of the board was the Halloween-shaped cheese slices! I bought a package of assorted sliced cheeses at the store and cut them out with Halloween cookie cutters. I’ll link them below!
How to Make Salami Roses
I’ve seen all kinds of tutorials on how to make salami or pepperoni roses. We tried the version where you fold your rounds over a cup, but our slices were too thick to bend correctly.
In the end, we made two center cones out of the salami. Then we wrapped more “petals” around the centers and secured them with a toothpick!
How to Make Green, Seasoned Mozzarella
To make green, seasoned mozzarella, start with mozzarella pearls and add a few drops of liquid food coloring. Then stir until all of the pearls are nice and green.
Next, drizzle some olive oil over the top and season with salt and pepper to taste. You can add any other spices you want as well!
Tip: Make sure to dye your cheese green first. The water-soluble dye won’t mix well with the olive oil!
Halloween Baby Shower Decor
As I said earlier, we wanted to go with a classic Halloween aesthetic. I chose, orange, black, and green for our colors and used lots of ghosts, pumpkins, black cats and witches.
We set up a few different stations. First, we had the food buffet with a balloon arch above it. Then we had a diaper decorating station. Last, we set up a gift station. And we had a welcome chalkboard outside the door that I decorated!
Food Station
As a backdrop for the food, I covered the table with black table clothes and draped Halloween fabric on top.
Then I added some Halloween lanterns, a garland, some pumpkins, and a few other Halloween trinkets.
Last, I used my grocery store flower hack from this post to get some affordable orange hydrangeas! I think fresh flowers elevate any party setup!
Balloon Arch Tips
There isn’t enough room in this post for a full balloon arch tutorial but here are few tips and tricks!
- First, buy a kit from Amazon or Etsy! It will have the right mix of balloon sizes and the supplies you need to get started.
- Next, buy an electric balloon blower. You just can’t blow up that many balloons with your lungs.
- Keep some extra fishing line and painter’s tape around just in case you need some extra help securing your arch in spots.
- Last, use command hooks or a push pin to attach the arch to the wall. It will be more secure than trying to tape it!
Gift Station
This balloon garland that matched our Halloween theme was adorable!
Diaper Decorating Station
We set up a diaper decorating station where everyone could decorate a diaper for the new parents to read after the baby comes! This was such a sweet activity!
Decorating the Welcome Chalk Board
You only need a sign and a chalk marker to create your own chalkboard welcome sign!
To create a faux calligraphy effect, just write your words out and make all the downstrokes thicker than the upstrokes! Tip: I like to use a round marker to write the message. Then I use a chiseled marker to thicken the downstrokes.
Party Supplies
I ordered the party supplies and paper products from Amazon, and they were too cute! I’ll link them below!
